Lutheran Church of America

About Our Church

Saint Andrew Lutheran Church was officially organized at Londontowne Elementary School on Palm Sunday, 1979. Shortly thereafter the congregation purchased property in the midst of a number of residential subdivisions. The construction was completed and worship began in the multipurpose sanctuary on November 1, 1980.

From the beginning, Saint Andrew has been a community of believers committed to ministering to children and families. Since 1984, Saint Andrew's preschool has been a ministry of God's grace to the children of our community. Similarly, since 1991, our youth have sought to minister to the less fortunate by participating in Habitat for Humanity projects in the region.

As one might expect, with lots of children, a focus on families, and a physical presence in a residential community, growth has continually demanded more space. Twice since our sanctuary was built we have expanded--with the building of a fellowship hall and office space in 1990, and with the building of a three level educational wing in 1998.

Now, after a third building campaign to beautify and update the sanctuary, Saint Andrew continues to carry out its vision for ministering to the people of Centreville. While maintaining our focus on children and families, we have also begun to focus on the social needs of our community due to the changing demographics of Fairfax county. Our vision is that we would be able to welcome all people and play some small role in impacting their lives with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

About the Faith We Proclaim

As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Saint Andrew confesses "the Triune God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit...Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior...and the Gospel, recorded in the Holy Scripture and confessed in the ecumenical creeds [Apostles' and Nicene] and Lutheran confessional writings, as the power of God to create and sustain the Church for God's mission in the world." (ELCA Constitution, 2.07)
